Adriaen's Landing
Central Utility Plan

Hartford, CT

The Central Utility Plant (CUP) is a key element of the development at Adriaen's Landing in Hartford. The CUP includes the boilers, chillers, and other equipment that heat and cool the Connecticut Convention Center, Hartford Marriott, and the forthcoming Connecticut Center for Science and Exploration. By serving three major structures on one site, this CUP runs more efficiently and economically than if the three buildings were served by separate plants.

This project required over 1,000 feet of piping throughout the site. The steam plant includes two 600-horsepower boilers, one 400-horsepower boiler, and two 20,000-gallon tanks. The chiller plant has 800-ton and 1200-ton variable speed controllers, a 1200-ton absorber and three cooling towers. The expansion plan includes another 600-horsepower boiler, a new chiller and a new tower. BVH provided the mechanical and electrical engineering and commissioning services for the CUP.
